I've made a career out of building businesses focused on service, loyalty, and personal attention. After reading "Start Something That Matters" by Blake Mycoskie, I have had a goal to incorporate a clear giving model in any business I start. At Shah Trucking, we donate a Penny per Mile, and at Shah Logistics we donate a Dollar per Load. Over the years we have built relationships with several amazing non profits in our community and look forward to continuing these efforts for decades to come. Outside of work, I love traveling with my family, exploring new restaurants, and enjoying the outdoors!

What do you love most about your job or this industry? 
Undoubtedly, my favorite part of this business is the human connection. I love dedicating time to learn more about the values of our team members at Shah, our customers, and our carrier partners.  Each day we have the opportunity to gain insight from people all over the world with incredibly diverse backgrounds. The lessons we learn from these people allow us to grow each day and offer an empathetic and service-first brand of logistics.

What do you consider your biggest accomplishment?
My biggest accomplishment is my relationship with my best friend, my wife.  We have been together since we were 15 years old and built a dream life with our 2 lovely daughters, and, for that, I am proud, grateful, and forever motivated to make them proud.

Mr. Shah started his career with Owens Corning Corporation in Chicago followed by Union Carbide Corporation working in the Glad bags R&D division before moving to Chattanooga in 1982. He started a testing and consulting lab for barrier packaging. In 1986 he formed Hamilton Plastics, a manufacturing company  based in Chattanooga that provides plastic products to the food, industrial, and medical industries and remains CEO and President of the company. Hamilton Plastics is located on the Tennessee River front on 20 acres of land and spans 280,000 square feet of industrial and office space. In 1990 Harshad began to invest in various hotels acquiring ownership interest in a portfolio of approximately a dozen hotels and remains an investor in the hotel industry. In 2013 and 2019 his son Guru Shah pioneered  Shah Trucking and Shah Logistics Company respectively with Harshad's initial guidance, which is also headquartered in Chattanooga. Shah is a respected community leader who has served on the Boards of many local organizations in the Chattanooga area including Allied Arts, Chattanooga Neighborhood Enterprises, The Community Foundation of Greater Chattanooga, Chattanooga Rotary Club, Baylor School, Chattanooga State Technical College, and the UTC School of Business. His leadership and dedication to the community has been recognized with numerous awards and honors including the 2008 Chattanooga Area Manager of the Year Award, 2011 Better Business Bureau Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics, 2011 Daughters of the American Revolution Americanism Medal and a 2012 induction to the UTC College of Business Entrepreneurial Hall of Fame. Harshad and his family established the donor fund which continues to serve as a resource to the community by supporting many charities both locally and internationally.

Life moves fast and has been fun. In 38 years as a packaging industry professional, I have experienced international business operations in more than 20 countries. Awareness of these cultural differences created a personal consciousness that has been invaluable. As my work and family grew, time was available to be a servant leader. It has been a pleasure to serve on many boards and committees to pay these life experiences ahead through commitment and testimony.

What do you love most about your job or this industry? 
Every day is a new day. The energy of resolving problems and helping keep our teams aligned are the exciting times. There has never been a dull day.

What do you consider your biggest accomplishment?
Many life events combine into the biggest successes. Tina and I have been married for more than 30 years. Together we raised 3 healthy boys into impactful independent and thriving men of character. With twenty-five years of service to the Shah family, I am now working with 2 generations of ownership while growing each business and making a difference in the local community and beyond.

After a decade in logistics, I have had the absolute privilege of cutting my teeth in an amazing industry doing what others said could not be accomplished. Maintaining integrity and building something that benefits everyone from the bottom to the top and understanding that when one rises, we all rise together. I have had the rare opportunity to meet and work with industry professionals from different backgrounds which has contributed both culturally and professionally to my constant growth mindset.  Becoming the Director of Shah Logistics has been a fulfilling culmination of my principles and practices.

What do you love most about your job or this industry? 
Recruiting and coaching new industry professionals. Showing them the ropes while playing a small part in changing their lives with this career path.

What do you consider your biggest accomplishment?
Hands down my relationship with my wife and kids. We met very young and faced many hardships growing stronger with each one. Growing with my partner and raising two incredible hardworking and unique children has been the honor of my life. Everything that comes after is icing on the cake!

What do you love most about your job or this industry? 
Being in the industry for a while I have seen the good and the (more often than not, bad). So, when Mr. Shah and I talked back in 2013 it was so refreshing to learn about the family atmosphere he spoke of, and I knew I wanted to help build Shah Trucking.  I can say I am truly blessed and thankful to work for such a wonderful, caring and loving family. Watching Mr. Shah with his employees would make anyone inspired to do better. Here we are over eight years into it and my opinion hasn’t changed.

What do you consider your biggest accomplishment?
Like Tom has said, "Be a better version of yourself".  I want our drivers to know they do matter, and we do care about them as well as their families. I hope I can make some small and positive difference in their lives. The drivers become a big part of your life and you look after them as your own.  I would say my impact and connection with all the drivers I have worked with over the years is my greatest accomplishment.
